Marloes Horst: Intermission Fall/Winter 2011

Amy Winehouse - Lioness: Hidden Treasures

Despite her destructive lifestyle she was unbelievably talented and had the voice of an angel. She was the definition of raw talent with a rare intuition as a vocalist, she lived jazz, she lived blues. This new album Lioness: Hidden Treasures is a collection of previously unreleased tracks, alternate versions of existing classics, as well as a couple of brand new compositions. Following her tragic passing, some of the producers and musicians who worked closely with Amy Winehouse, among them Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, spent time listening over the many recordings that Amy had made, before, during, and after the release of Frank and Back To Black. Every song she wrote was a piece of her mind and her emotions captured while baring her soul through the darkest times. It's sad thinking of how much beautiful music she had left to share with the world. When you listen to "Best Friends, Right?", "Like Smoke", "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", "Between the Cheats", and “Body And Soul”, it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest and exceptional musicians of our generation.

Spirited Magazine "Plastic City" Release Reception at Lorem Ipsum

Back in November I attended the Spirited Magazine "Plastic City" launch at Lorem Ipsum with a few of my Boston Fashion blogger friends. For those who aren't familiar Spirited Magazine is an independent Magazine started by visual artist and stylist Amanda Antunes. It's iinspired by the art of collaboration, and combines the best of artistic acumen with the fundamentals of community. The vision is to bring 'creatives- the artist' as more than an individual commodity producing art together in the spirit of humanity and the soul thereof. The magazine is highly conceptual and born from the necessity to create productive outlets for exploring textures and depths. Contributors, who include photographers, stylists, musicians, visual artists, filmmakers, graphic designers, and writers, are challenged to stretch this idea to its limits, explore its surfaces and crevices. The "Plastic City" issue is available for sale online and available at Lorem Ipsum bookstore. The next issue "Noir Generation" is currently in the works, which I will be submitting an editorial that I'll be styling.

Inspiration

The weather here in Boston has been unpredictable as of late, which makes it complicated to get dressed in the morning. I'm sure that I'm not the only one that feels like they have a closet full of clothes but still can't find anything to wear. Personally I have certain pieces that I can't live without and wear all the time. Its sort of ridiculous when I stumble upon pieces I have yet to wear with the price tags still on them. While out shopping I've been OBSESSED with floppy felt floppy hats, fur, sheer chiffon tops and maxi dresses, trousers, chunky sweaters, and suede or leather booties. I can't get enough of the eclectic street style in Stockholm!
