On Tuesday morning I had to wake up really early to catch the bus to New York. I had an interview with "Ports 1961" for a public-relations internship. I arrived in the city fairly early then expected, I had to catch the Uptown 6 train to 23rd St. then flag a taxi down because I didn't know how to get further up west, I did pretty well finding the showroom. My interview was scheduled for 12:30 p.m., but I arrived pretty early so I was able to meet with Samantha before then. When I walked into the Ports 1961 showroom I felt like I was at home, it felt so right. The clothing was to die for, and I wanted everything in there. I wish I could have taken some pictures of everything in there but that would have been unprofessional. We started talking about what my tasks would be as an intern which included putting together samples for photo shoots, celebrities who wear Ports 1961, buyers, answering phones, event planning, and now that Fashion Week is coming up soon help coordinating that. The internship is for the spring semester and would be an amazing opportunity to get my foot in the door and start networking. Since the internship is in New York every Tuesday and Thursday I would have to travel back and forth from Boston to New York on top of going to school and working in Boston. If I am chosen for the intern position this will be a lot to handle but I love a challenge and if I knew I wouldn't be able to take on all these things I certainly wouldn't be bothered. Nothing is handed to anyone on a silver platter in life, it takes hard work to get the things you want in life, I am so determined to reach my career goals within the fashion industry and I am ready to start doing the things I love no matter how hard it might be in the beginning. I know deep down in my heart it will be worth it. I am ready to go out into the world and claim what is mine. I hope I get this opportunity to intern with Ports 1961. I should know if I go the internship by Wednesday or Thursday of next week.
