Thrifting in Allston

Those who know me are well aware of my obsession with vintage clothing. Whenever I have time to myself I enjoy spending it going to some of my favorite thrift shops. Something about digging through piles and piles of clothing until you find that hidden treasure excites me. My style is greatly influenced by the 70's and 80's eras, so I tend to look for bold prints and anything that looks remotely ridiculous while out shopping. One of the things I miss about living in New York is all of my favorite thrift stores in Brooklyn and the East Village. I'm not a huge fan of the thrift stores that Boston has to offer, it's a hit or miss with most places. While I was out in Allston with my close friend we went into Urban Renewal where I found a floral wide legged jumpsuit and over sized padded printed blouse. Before heading to dinner we stumbled upon "Lola's Urban Vintage" I had never been in before, but I heard so many great things about it. The boutique is independently owned that has many hand made pieces and beautiful vintage pieces from all over the world. Greatly inspired by the 20's era, it's the place for upcoming designers to showcase their work. I was so intrigued by the shop I had to chit-chat with the owner Nicoletta while shopping. When I asked her what inspired her to open her own business, I was very impressed by her response " I'm inspired by everything, I wanted to show that Boston isn't the worst dress city. It was a chance to discover artists and to show the people in Boston that you can find unique pieces. In Boston no one supports each other. I wanted to create other outlets to shop". After speaking briefly I found an amazing over sized suede jacket with leather patches and a funky fuzzy crop top. Lola's is the go to destination for vintage lovers in search of unique pieces, everything in there is hard to come by. Nicoletta has a great eye for fashion and exceptional taste in picking the finest vintage pieces.

Monday: East Village meets Brooklyn

This past Monday I had the day off from my hectic schedule in honor of President's Day. Any free time I get while I'm currently living in New York I dedicated to going thrifting. It felt so great to not be bothered by my alarm clock going off and interrupting my sleep. I got to sleep in which I haven't done in a long time and spend the day doing what I'm best at SHOPPING! I started off at "No Relations" in East Village, it must have been my lucky day because I found the perfect fur coat that I've been in search of all season. Its black with some added grey areas and greatly over sized, not your typical colored fur coat but that's what makes it special. After leaving the East Village I grabbed a quick lunch from Chipotle before heading to Brooklyn for more vintage shopping. Those of you who don't know, I'm a sucker for a burrito! One of my favorite thrift stores in New York is "Beacon's Closet"! I've been to the Park Slope location but I was curios to see the Williamsburg location as well. Turns out I like the Williamsburg location better due to the fact it's so much bigger and they have so many shoes and vintage purses to choose from! I bought yet another purse, a suede printed cropped blouse with buttons going down the back, and a pair of leather boots with colored patches. I've been wearing my boots since I bought them and they hurt my feet unfortunately (-_-) I hope they stretch soon! Before heading home I stopped in the "Salvation Army" and "The Urban Jungle Vintage Warehouse" but I didn't see anything that captured my attention. Juggling Teen Vogue and my job leaves very little time to do all the stuff I would like to do during my time here but any chance I get I will be spending it in "No Relations" and "Beacon's Closet"!

East Village meets Brooklyn

Monday was my first and last day off from both Teen Vogue and LF. I work seven days a week so having a moment or a day to myself doesn't happen fairly often. One of the things that excites me the most about living in New York is the thrift stores! It was nice to have the whole day free from all obligations. I chose to spend it with my friends Teagan, Amber, and Kara from Teen Vogue for a day of thrifting and good eats in the city. We started off the day by meeting in front of the Conde Nast building as if it were a regular day in the life as a fashion intern. When we all arrived we headed for east village to check out "No Relations" vintage. Almost every girl at LF has been talking about how amazing of a place it is and the large amount of fur coats they have in stock. From the moment I walked in there was so many cute things hanging on every rack it became a little overwhelming. Since it was our first stop of the day I decided to do some heavy looking around and only purchased on thing. I'm obsessed with vintage purses! You can never have too many bags! I found a grey shoulder bag with great detail for only $10 dollars! Our next stop was "East Village Vintage" there I found a vintage Valentino printed over sized button up for $10 dollars! Their was a nice little Japanese restaurant next door called "Shima" so we all decided to get a bite to eat before we went elsewhere. I ordered a lunchbox special that included miso soup, spicy california roll, green salad, chicken wings, and chicken teriyaki with a side of rice. It sounds like a lot but the portions were fairly small. After lunch we made our way to Brooklyn for some more thrifting. Our last stop of the day was "Beacon's Closet" which has now been crowned my favorite place to shop at in all of New York! That was where I hit the jacket pot and made my best purchases of the day! I never find vintage shoes in my size so I was really excited about the pair that I did find as well as a sheer printed blouse, bucket vintage purse, and a denim jumpsuit. All in all I found six amazing new pieces for only $75 bucks! To top off our great day we had coffee, hot chocolate, and chocolate cake at this delicious cafe/restaurant called "The Chocolate Room".

This is one of my favorite thrift stores, and I'm excited they are opening up a new location in Cambridge. The one located on Newbury street is fairly small considering its based inside a cleaners. The new store is so much bigger which means more unique finds.
