New York Fashion Week- Day 1

Yesterday was the first day of New York Fashion Week, and I kicked things off in the afternoon with the Tadashi Shoji show at Lincoln Center. For this transitional time between summer and fall I chose to attend wearing an achromatic color blocked casual outfit paired with a vintage clutch, festive snakeskin heels, and purple lip.

Tadashi Shoji likes to use his travels as the main source of inspiration when designing each collection. The Spring/Summer 2013 collection takes on a journey capturing the ultimate wanderlust. The first stop is Venice Beach for a vintage Venetian cuts and embroidered lace as seen in the opening look. The weather out west seemed to have an influence on the collections more casual looks-lace shorts and dreamy trapeze blouses. From there we travel eastward through the desert where, knee length dresses in electric blue and rose have a patchwork print. With the final stop being the ancient capital of Xi'an, that inspired the Victorian era-like sheer romantic tulle gowns.
  

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at the MET

On Monday I was in New York City for the day to see the Alexander McQueen "Savage Beauty" exhibit at the MET. The exhibit evoked what we are as humans, with each collection he told stories through religion, politics, and history. The exhibit rooms were packed and at times it was a little distracting to overhear some of the comments, but ultimately nothing could detract from McQueen's vision and work. I can't say exactly why other than that there was this primal and instinctual energy surrounding these collections. Something that speaks to the ancient emotional reptilian core of our earthly souls. This was one of the best experiences of my life, I felt overwhelmed with emotion and cried tears of joy. In that very moment there was a connection between myself and each piece of art. I walked away feeling honored to have been in the presence of his work. He left little to the imagination and was the true definition of an artist. It took nearly three hours to complete the entire exhibition. Before heading back home to Boston I spent some time thrifting in the East Village, had dinner with one of my best friends Jenny, Gabi, Emily and some familiar faces at "Cafe Habana" in Soho. There was a bar down the street called "Sweet and Vicious" that I've never been to. I highly recommend it to those who like pretentious hipsters, outdoor seating, and a smoking section.

Jeffrey Campbell "Oh Boy" Video Series

Here is my latest feature! Look out for bits and pieces of me in (Act III). Jeffrey Campbell shoes is proud to present their latest capsule collection "Oh Boy" which features three of the brand's most popular women's styles in men's sizes. The Glitter LITA, Areas, and Switchblade will soon be available to the public through Jeffrey Campbell retailers including OAK, I Don't Like Mondays, and Trash & Vaudeville. In preparation for the launch Bridgette and Conor from the Jeffrey Campbell team in New York organized a video shoot with the Future Machine, a production company based in Boston, MA.

The video series stars Ernesto as a young man who can't seem to a pair of Glitter LITAS down from the above telephone wires, and seeks the help of the crowd of JC Girls to retrieve them. The final video includes the reveal that the shoes were in fact meant for the JC boy!!

Jeffrey Campbell JC Girl Video Campaign Shoot

On Saturday I had the opportunity to shoot with Jeffrey Campbell for their newest video campaign featuring real life JC girls! I can tell you all that from the moment I arrived on set I have never been surrounded by so many LITAS at once. We were shooting in Greenpoint, Brooklyn by OAK and it was freezing cold that day but it was worth it I'd say. I met the entire Jeffrey Campbell team who all were obsessed with my vintage Luther Vandross over sized tank, and a few bloggers such as Nubia Mejia of http://www.nubiasnonsense.com She has great style and an amazing site. The video campaign will launch sometime in April! I'm interested to see how it came out! It was a great experience and they would love to work with us all again for future projects. Photos from the shoot will be up on the JC blog and Tumblr this week!

Since I've been living in New York my eating habits are so unhealthy due to the fact that I'm always working and there is no idle time to even consider going grocery shopping to save money. One of my favorite places to eat and have drinks is "Cafe Habana" on Prince and Elizabeth. They have the best Cuban food and is known mainly for their delicious corn that is grilled to perfection topped with Butter, Parmesan cheese, and Cinnamon. When I order take-out while being at work I usually order the grilled chicken entree with rice and black beans. The dinner menu is amazing and when I have the time to sit and enjoy a meal I order the fish tacos with rice and beans or the steak enchiladas with rice and beans. Lastly two weeks ago I had brunch on the Upper West Side at "Community Food & Juice" with a friend from Teen Vogue that is leaving to go to London for a few months. I ordered french toast with almonds and pears topped with caramel syrup. I hate to admit the fact that I order take-out for lunch and dinner on a daily basis. If you live in the city or will be visiting soon I highly recommend both restaurants!

Monday: East Village meets Brooklyn

This past Monday I had the day off from my hectic schedule in honor of President's Day. Any free time I get while I'm currently living in New York I dedicated to going thrifting. It felt so great to not be bothered by my alarm clock going off and interrupting my sleep. I got to sleep in which I haven't done in a long time and spend the day doing what I'm best at SHOPPING! I started off at "No Relations" in East Village, it must have been my lucky day because I found the perfect fur coat that I've been in search of all season. Its black with some added grey areas and greatly over sized, not your typical colored fur coat but that's what makes it special. After leaving the East Village I grabbed a quick lunch from Chipotle before heading to Brooklyn for more vintage shopping. Those of you who don't know, I'm a sucker for a burrito! One of my favorite thrift stores in New York is "Beacon's Closet"! I've been to the Park Slope location but I was curios to see the Williamsburg location as well. Turns out I like the Williamsburg location better due to the fact it's so much bigger and they have so many shoes and vintage purses to choose from! I bought yet another purse, a suede printed cropped blouse with buttons going down the back, and a pair of leather boots with colored patches. I've been wearing my boots since I bought them and they hurt my feet unfortunately (-_-) I hope they stretch soon! Before heading home I stopped in the "Salvation Army" and "The Urban Jungle Vintage Warehouse" but I didn't see anything that captured my attention. Juggling Teen Vogue and my job leaves very little time to do all the stuff I would like to do during my time here but any chance I get I will be spending it in "No Relations" and "Beacon's Closet"!

NY Fashion Week: Kevork Kiledjian Fall/Winter 2011 RTW

On Monday I attended the Kevork Kiledjian fashion show at Milk studios. In a suppressed world where few were brave enough to listen to their inner voice. Tamara De Lemppicka lived an authentic without fear or conformity. She was the catalyst for today’s women. Kevork Kiledjian envisions this in his collection. An indefinable being intelligently confident in their environment, at its foundation the collection is a study of life’s opposites. Fabrics and designs that only in contrast create harmony. Tamara knew that inherently. Centered upon a ballet of black, purple, camel, and gold Kevork Kiledjians latest collection reflects what it means to be radical. Trusting oneself by ignoring the outside social norm. Fitted silhouettes and asymmetrical lengths echo Kevork Kiledjians desire to remember the physical. The conscious reveal of skin with a slit, open back, or fringe augment the Kiledjian dimension.
